I noticed the dainty green leaves of Ivy-leaved toadflax clinging to the dry stone wall on the right.</div><div><br><div>We walked along brookside and saw the water level had risen to just below paving to the adjoining houses no doubt causing them some concern! </div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div><br></div><div>Later we walked along the River Derwent which was flowing furiously and also just below flooding over level. This didn't put the ducks off who were busy entertaining the crowds for treats which they shouldn't really be getting.</div><div><br></div><div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

</div><br>The above pair had quite striking colouring especially the male with purple head feathers. I like birds but have limited knowledge so we did not identify them until we got home. With some help from inaturalist app it seems they were a pair of tufted ducks <i>Aythya fuligula. </i>The tuft being wet from diving was clinging to the back of the head and can just be made out in the photo.</div><div><br></div><div>We took lunch in the Gallery cafe both of us having halloumi wraps with tea which was very tasty. We were impressed by their very extensive menu of lunch choices.</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div></div></div>Arneyinthedaleshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/09974662328873495256noreply@blogger.com0
